12 steps+cigarettes=biblestudy

Meet cheeks + N.A. They are best Friends. 
Together they are staying sober by following the 12 steps to recovery and fellowshipping at the N/A sober House and now they are getting to know Jesus!

Their life stories were marked by brokenness,loss and addiction but now they are on the road to recovery. When Daniel met Cheeks and N.A they were at Jaws Corner, where the men  talk politics and sip coffee as black as night. They were eager and proud to share with him that they had been sober for nearly 10 months. Daniel, sensing their humility and openness shared with them the 5 steps to recovery that changed his life as he began to know "Isa" of the Ingil {or Jesus of the bible}. These guys were so elated that Daniel's "program" was so similar to the steps that have helped them stay clean and sober that they encouraged him to make his 5 step bible study into 12 steps, come visit the sober house and share it with all the men recovering there. To make a beautiful story short, which we will tell in more detail in person, I ended up joining them in writing up some simple steps to doing discovery bible study, attending their n/a meetings, having lunch with these sometimes 3 day sober men, and studying the bible with them all. Their is nothing more heart warming and real than to sit around a circle with detoxing + recovering addicts that have a bible in one hand and a cigarette in the other. It is even more beautiful a thing to watch these guys, heartbroken and humbled reading about Jesus the good Shepherd who cares more for about going after the one lost sheep that went astray than to stay with the ninety nine that stayed at home and stayed in line. It is equally as beautiful to watch these men light up with hope as they read about Jesus who like the father of the prodigal son returning home after squandering his inheritance welcomed and treated Him like a king all with open arms. Yesterday we said some tearful goodbyes to the friends we have grown to love so much. We are confident however  that many of these men will  continue reading the Ingil,and falling more in love with the person of Jesus Christ who loves and wants to know them all.
