The Spice Island.

We have arrived safely on the island that shall remain "unknown" for the time we are here (just for the sake of anonymity) Although, its probably not a huge deal. The secret police already know we are here, have investigated us and know what we ate for dinner last night . But still, theres some excitement in remaining "undercover".
We have only been here a little over a week and things are going well. I met a nice woman on the DalaDala ride into town who invited me to come teach four year olds in the Muslim school where she works. Tomorrow is the big day so I invited myself over to her house today to get to know her better first.
This is one special thing about African culture;it is not rude or uncommon to show up, invite yourself over, or sit and stare at each other because you don't know the same language. There is no such thing as awkward silence because  to have visitors in your home is not viewed as an inconvenience but rather as a blessing from GOD to these people. Therefore to invite myself to her house is bringing a blessing into her home!
In addition to that, myself and two other girls were shopping for dinner in the market place and in our search for chapattis ran into a man who happened to be a member of Parliament, who also happened to invite  us to his house for tea and then just so happened to invite us to sit in on a meeting anytime we want and of lesser importance just so happened to think I was Farsi Arab. This man is what we like to call a "Gatekeeper" someone that we pray to meet in any country we go to because they hold the figurative keys to the people, the town, and sometimes the government. "Gatekeepers" often have the authority to lock us out or let us in to have relationships in the place that we stay. They are obviously people we want to find favor with.
This is my update for now. It's very exciting to recall to you the exciting things that are already happening. I continue to be so grateful for this life I have and hope you continue to be encouraged and excited with me as we experience together all that God will do when we make our lives available to Him. Wether its sitting next to a  kenyan stranger on the daladala or the Muslim man we meet looking for chipattis on the street, wether its the grocer in the checkout line or the man sitting next to you at Starbuck's our Father's desire is  the same; for every person to know and love him so that not one should parish.
Love to you all, Meehan
